These slices of Copper Firebrick are from an old smelter at the Calumet & Hecla Mining Co. on the Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan

Over the years, the smelting process resulted in the firebrick absorbing molten copper and other metals.  After the smelter was closed pieces were salvaged and rockhounds and lapidaries have created many decorative objects, including jewelry cabochons, bookends, clocks and more.

These pieces are raw slabs without polishing, or any surface treatment.

Slab A measures 5.5” by 2.75” and weighs 8 oz

Slab B measures 4.5” by 3.75” and weighs 5 oz
